The Chanukah Jelly Doughnut: Down for it OR Dread it?

Jelly Doughnuts (or "Sufganiyot" in Hebrew) are a symbol of Chanukah worldwide! They are traditionally jelly doughnuts that are deep fried in oil. They are fried to remind us of the oil that burned hat in n miraculously for 8 days in the second Temple in Jerusalem.

”Deep fried" is the keyword here that gives some of us second thoughts as to have it or don’t have it.... So the big question is are you down for the doughnut or do you dread the doughnut?

If you don't like jelly doughnuts, this is an easy one to pass up, but if you love them, it's not so easy to pass on it.

So let's talk about how you can enjoy Chanukah and have your doughnut too!

Here are a few things to think about:

1. Kill the craving! The 1 Bite Rule.
I believe that we can all have a bite! Just a bite and get the yummy taste out of our cravings, savor it and walk away. And, if you are around many doughnuts over the 8 days of Chanukah you may find yourself having many single bites.... that definitely beats the alternative to having many several whole donuts, right?!
(Reminder: If your goals are weight loss or maintenance, this may not help you meet your goals!)

2. 1 Doughnut and DONE!
Find the time that is right for you to have a whole doughnut and enjoy that whole doughnut! Savor it so that it satiates you for the week! Find the time over the holiday to have it when it is planned (a holiday party you are attending), intentional (you have decided already to do it) and worth it (if you know it's going to be a delicious one not worth giving up!)

3. Don't Start!
If having 1 bite or 1 doughnut opens the flood gates for you to have other additional treats- or gives you license to move deeper into an "unhealthy" space, then don't start! Be mindful and reasonable with what you know you can handle. Only you know you best!

This is my Chanukah TIP #1: How to navigate the Jelly Doughnut!

Now that you have options, which will you choose?

HAPPY CHANUKAH!
